I would like to mount a bimini on the flybridge of a CD28, however access to the side of the flybridge is very tight and almost impossable to get into to mount any backing plates, nuts etc. Has anyone mounted a bimini on the rail that is attached to the top of the flybridge side. This rail seems to be in about the right spot but my question is whether it will suport the additional weight of the bimini top.

Re: Flybridge bimini
Simply cut access holes, through the fiberglass, on the inside of the flybridge cowling below or across from where you would like to mount the brackets. When done, make small teak covers to cover the access holes, attached with oval head SS screws. In fact, the covers look quite nice when done. I used a hole saw to cut the access holes.

Peter:
My bimini is mounted to the side of the bridge. I cut access holes on each side to mount backing plates. I installed inspection ports in each hole. They look just fine and also afford me access to the antenna leads and mounts. I'd be happy to e-mail you photos if you are interested.
