Air Vents for well, etc.

Post by Walter Freiberger »

I have a 1978 CD 25 with a 1996 Evinrude 9.9 electric start motor in the well.
Two questions:
1. Has anyone installed electric intake airvents in place of the two cowl ventilators on the lid of the well, so that the air can be pushed down and the lid kept closed, to keep the noise closed when the engine is running? I am told the engine fumes would stall the engine if the lid is closed during running.

2. I am planning to replace the Evinrude with a Honda or Yamaha 4-stroke, 8 or 9.9 HP, if possible. Is it possible, and if so, which model? Does the Yamahe T8EX fit the well?

Thank you.

Yes I did on my CD26 engine well but the results were not satisfactory...the engine idle exhaust gas was still too much for smooth running. Piping the engine idle exhaust gas out of the well completely is the best bet.

Can not answer you on this one...will leave it for a CD25 owner...although the new T8EX is a pretty big engine....weights more than my T9.9EX according to the brochure info.

With my Nissan 6 HP 4 stroke I can run with the cover down, I don't have the drop board in place below the tiller, I could not do this with my 9.9 2 stroke rude. I would see if you really need the forced air after replacing the motor, can't say on the 8 Horse motor, have not heard of anyone who has tried to shoehorn it in there.
