I am into the wood trim on the restoration of COOT, hull #607, and am curious about the various referrals to the 'teak' trim. So far all I have found under decades of black gunk is very nice mahagony, both inside the cabin and all the exterior trim. I took it all down to clean raw wood with a one inch red devil scraper and it's really beautifull. With just three coats of varnish it glows with a lovely red brown color. All the mahagong is the stuff of bygone years, strong and hard with not a speck of deterioration, and a nice grain. None needs replacing.
Are some of the CDs teak trimmed?
I am still puzzled by the interior paneling. I tied all kinds of cleaners to remove the layers of gunk with zip for sucess. Firuring I would have to paint, I slathered on Teka A and Teka B which is a very corrorsive chemical, for cleaning teak only, and the panels came clean as new. A light sanding, and three coats of varnish, and they glow a nice teaky tan. What are those panels made of?
The end of this renovation is getting near, and so far so good. Time to go sailing

Re: CD25 Teak or mahagony?
Hi Ron...
Most of the Cd's are teak. I have never seen one in mahogany but have heard rumours of them. If you would like I would be glad to stop by and look. I live in Fort Lauderdale. e-mail if you are interested.
