I'm looking at a 1977 CD 25, and would be interested in any known "problem areas" or recurring maintenance difficulties that you could share. This boat looks like its in about average condition, and is listed around $6000 with a 9.9 hp OB and 3 sails; is this in the ballpark? It also has a bronze motor mount; would that be someone's add-on? Didn't all 25s come with a well? Many thanks.

Re: CD 25 Soft spots
make sure you check the rudder out. The 25's have a rudder problem where the rudder delaminates off of the shaft. If you pull down on the rudder with about 10 to 15 lbs of force you'll be able to see if it is loose. Other then that they are great yachts.

Re: CD 25 Soft spots
Frank, I would be looking for a loss of camber in the side decks as evidenced by the aftermost stanchions leaning toward the centerline of the hull, tendancy for the aft set of bulkheads to move toward one another at the headliner and soft spots in any of the cored areas of the decks or cockpit. Blistering could be a problem so if you do an inspectionn on the "hill" make sure the hull is clean enough to make a good check. Dave's suggestion is a must.Frank Beckstein wrote: I'm looking at a 1977 CD 25, and would be interested in any known "problem areas" or recurring maintenance difficulties that you could share.
