I am having difficulty trying to loosen packing nut to re-pack stuffing box. Any ideas how to loosen the packing nut? I can't turn it by hand. Hard to get a wrench on it. There seems to be just the packing nut. Could not see a lock nut. It is difficult trying to reach into such a small space. I've tried WD-40 and gentle tapping with a small hammer. Seems like it is really stuck. Thanks.

Jim,
I'll bet there is a locking nut. Without that, the other nut will easily back off and create a significant mess. Don't ask how I know.
I will also bet that a hammer and a screwdriver will break the lock nut loose. You might try Corrosion-X or PB Blaster from your local automotive supply house if you suspect corrosion between the nuts and housing.
