props

Post by Alan Brush »

I have a 30' cutter rigged, CD. Currently there is a 2- 2-bladed prop. I am thinnking ab
blade prop on a Volvo engine. I'm thinking of going to
a 3-blade replacement.
Suggestions?

Alan,

I've long been interested in doing that with my CD30. When
I first got the boat, Cape Dory had a three bladed prop as
an option, I spoke with the factory and as I remember, it
was a custom modified prop. I also remember them telling
me there was a Columbian prop that was very close, I'd suggest
first calling Robinhood Marine in Maine to see if they have
any recommendations, and then Columbia Props, if they are
still in business!

A friend out here did have a three bladed prop put on her CD30
and it is smooth and quiet, very nice. However the engine
over revs at top speed which indicates that the pitch or
diameter is off, so it can make a difference.

Post your result when you get one, Alan.

Thanks,
