The table in our CD30 "B" plan is permanently mounted to the cabin sole. While there could be an argument made for this arrangement, we are considering some sort of a bulk head mounted table. The problem arises from the fact that there is a significant distance between the forward bulkhead and the compression post. (I don't think that this is an issue with the conventional cabin layout on the CD30's.) For a bulkhead mounted table to work in the cabin, there would have to be a considerable distance that the table would have to give-up before the leaves of such a design could unfold past the compression post.
Has anyone undertaken the installation of a custom table for the cabin of a CD30 "B" plan? We believe that this idea would give us more room between the two bunks. Any design advice and or photos would be greatly appreciated.

Bob, I wish I could help with a plan, but haven't done what you're trying to do. I have photos of the standard table, however, if they would be of any value. Also, I believe the compression post is located where the second bulhead (the one on which the table is mounted on the conventional layout) would have been located. From the drawing your bulkhead's fore/aft location is the same as the V berth bulkhead in our boat. I recall that your table is on stainless legs that are bolted to the sole; is that correct?

Re: Cabin Table for CD30 "B" version
Joe, You are correct in that my existing table is either bolted or screwed to the cabin sole. I believe that the legs are aluminum, not stainless but I may be wrong. What you mention about the location of the compression post and the location of the single bulkhead on the "B" version makes sense. From a production standpoint, this would have been a good way to do it... expand the galley, eliminate one bulkhead, and keep the second bulkhead to seaparate the cabin from the head.
What we have in mind, if we can figure out the design, is to replace the existing table with a bulkhead mounted version to make more room in the cabin.
Do any of you CD30 "B" owners have any ideas?

Re: Cabin Table for CD30 "B" version
Bob,
I too have a B version and understand the problem all too well. While a bulkhead mounted table might work, I would suggest fixing a clamp from the table to the compression post, and sunken post (leg) well for the far leg. The table could rest in a bracket on the port side bulkhead when not in use. Or, you could use a table like I had on my CD26 was a single post, that set in a well with the table fitted in a bracket in the vee berth when not in use.
Right now, I am in the planning stage. The work will happen over the winter.

Re: Cabin Table for CD30 "B" version
Bob:
I'm not that familiar with the B layout on the CD30, but it seems that you could adapt a cockpit table to clamp to the compression post (instead of clamping to the steering pedestal) and use an off-the-shelf unit with only minor changes (perhaps a bushing) to the clamping collar. If the table would be in the way when stowed flat against the compression post, you could set it up to swivel 90 degrees so that it stows in a fore-aft orientation.
I plan to remove the fixed table in my CD27 this winter and build a bulkhead-mount table, based on drawings from a CD30 owner and an actual unit in a nearby CD27.
