Varnish for the cabin sole?

Post by Chris Scheck »

As I posted last week, I'm in the process of refinishing the interior of our CD33. Sanded every bit of wood in the main salon (3 weekends) and am now oiling it with Scott's Liquid Gold. I'm thinking of using Satin Varnish on the coamings around the countertops in the galley and head and other places that get handled a lot.
I'm also refinishing the teak and holly footwell just below the nav table, to see if I want to go ahead and do the entire cabin sole next year ... after my girlfriend recovers from this project. (She said something about "Titanic" but I couldn't really understand it with all the yelling.) What kind of varnish would you recommend for this ... I'm assuming some kind of high-gloss poly?
Thanks for any advice ...

Chris, I've had good luck with Interlux Goldspar, formerly know as 95, I think. It is a single part poly and I've experienced no problems with lack of footing, although that could happen. Good luck.
