What size halyards for CD28?

Post by Stan W. »

My '79 CD28 could use new halyards. The existing ones appear to be some kind of synthetic three strand 3/8 inch and may well be original. The '81 manual available on-line says 7/16 inch "prestretched dacron" (whatever that is). Sta-Set X should be adequate for my purposes (cruising and beer can racing), but what size? I am thinking 3/8 inch to reduce weight and windage aloft. Is that enough or do I need the 7/16 inch?

The manual I looked at says halyards are 3/8", and Sta-set should be fine. I used it on our 28 when we replaced the old ones. 7/16" is for sheets.
