Typhoon Shrouds

Post by Richard K. Rosenberger »

Yesterday I could'nt help but notice there are 4 Typhoons where I keep mine. And 50% of them had the shrouds opposite of the other 50%. I was confussed so when I got home I decided to consult the manual, There was no information as to which shroud is forward and which is aft. I've looked at other pictures of typhoons and the correct rigging I believe is upper shroud aft and lower shroud forward. So which is it? or am I all wet!!!!!

Re: Typhoon Shrouds - Manual Link

At the top of the CD Board web site is a link to "About Cape Dories." If you follow the link there to the Ty manual, you will find that there is an illustration that shows which shroud attaches where. I included the link to that specific illustration below. It matters because the spreaders are swept back slightly so that the shroud follows a straight line from the chainplate to the mast tangs.

Good sailing,

Richard, I was just reading my TY manual the other day and somewhere in there it states that the lower shroud should go aft. Regards.
