diesel strainer/filter

Post by David Low »

Actually I have two questions:

1: Does anyone know where one can get replacement strainers/screens for an MD7A, The strainer is engine mounted in the fuel path between the external course filter/water separator and the engine mounted secondary (fine) filter. The strainer is under a 1-1/2" dia cap on top of the primary fuel pump (the owners manual says to clean it annually)

2: Are there gaskets around the cap and the mounting screw?. I recently cleaned the screen and am getting a noxious leak around the screw head.

- sorry quess there are three questions

3: The boat has been run with a 2 micron primary filter (Raycor Brown). I went to a recent diesel seminar and they recommended a 10 micron (Raycor Blue) or a 30 micron (Raycor Red) cartridge for the primary (course) filter. - Any thoughts??

Hello David;
Concerning your query about "Which Micron do I Use" ?...There is an answer to this very question at the URL Link Below...you can also glean valuable info. from this board by searching on 'racor' or 'diesel filter'...personally, I use a 30 Micron Racor primary, and a 10 micron secondary; the secondary is onboard the Yanmar 1GM10...there have been some previous threads about this subject so spend some time looking in the archives...good luck!
