I've just installed a CDI furler on Pokey. The manual says to use 3/16 line, which strikes me as being too thin for "good hand". CDI advises that one can use a larger line if you decore the line fore of the cockpit so that it will use less spool. Has anyone done this? What size gives good hand?
One thing they don't/can't specify is how long the line should be. Is there a standard, i.e. some multiple of boat length or distance from the cockpit to the forestay? How does one determine how long it should be? Clew length plus distance from the cockpit to the forestay plus some factor? It could get really complicated, if you count number of revolutions the fully furled sail uses and take into account the diameter of the spool, etc.
Help?!?
Thanks,
Joel

Ty Furling Line - what size/how long?

Re: Ty Furling Line - what size/how long?
I just installed the same on my typhoon. I did some modifications however. I used 1/4 inch line 50 feet. I replaced the line that came with furler for halyard. You must decore approx 1 inch where the line will slide in groove and whip both ends tighty. The advantage to all this is 1 line. while the sail is up the halyard becomes furling line. if you remove the shackle and pin where halyard is to be secured and run halyard thru this hole and around drum everything works great.
