I just purchased a typhoon weekender----wood trim needs work---what type of wood is it and can you suggest a type of finish---oil or varnish etc. and brands---thanks for your help. Derick

Derick, You now own a great boat. Good luck and many happy years of sailing. If the woodwork on your boat is original, I would say that it is teak. I feel that the secret to getting a fine finish on teak is in the preparation before you apply the finish. Teak is open grained and you must remove as much oil,dirt, weathered surface and especially any moisture that may be in the wood grain.
I own a Ty Weekender and would never use varnish or urethane on my brightwork. I have used Armada in the past and wasn't too thrilled with it. I now use TeakGuard. Twenty people will recommend twenty brands of finish,all deeply passionate in their choice. Read and listen to them about teak cleaner brands
After cleaning , sand the teak lightly. A word of warning.Don't keep sanding a certain spot, trying to get a blemish out. Some woodwork is veneered plywood and you can actually wear through the thin veneer. Let the cleaner do the work. Good luck with your new jewel. The best to you, John D.
