Bedding Compound for Teak Eyebrow Trim

Post by Bill Goldsmith »

I removed the eyebrow trim from Second Chance to refinish at home. Underneath it was a copious quantity of dark brown and black bedding compound that currently adorns the side of the coachroof. It is easily scraped off.

I would like to know what type of compound it is and also suggestions for the best compound to use when reinstalling the trim.

Also, the aft ends of the eyebrow trim had pulled away. I am considering putting a second screw about 1 inch aft of the existing screw to aid in holding it.

Should I fill and redrill the coachroof side holes, or just reuse the existing holes?

Bill,

The preferred caulk would be polysulfide such as Boatlife "Lifecaulk". Use mineral spirits as a clean up solvent. In addition use a latex squeege and a utility brush (china bristle)with shortened bristles to help in clean up. Use the existing screw holes unless they are stripped. If they are stripped you will need to repair them in order to use the existing screw locations in your eyebrow teak. If hole repairs are necessary use epoxy with some filler.
