Mattapoisett or Sippican Harbor

Post by Robert Pierce »

I know you are going to think this is strange as the sailing season in New England is just beginning but I am trying to decide where to keep my boat next season. I have been sailing in the Narragansett Bay for a couple of years and was interested in mooring in Mattapoisett or Sippican Harbor. From what I can tell you need to get on waiting list for a commercial mooring and town moorings can take many years. So for those of you who sail in Buzzards Bay or have your boat in one of these harbors, please provide a reccomendation. This loaction is also a bit closer to where I live.

Thanks

Good luck. I sailed my Cd26 for 6 years out of Aucoot Cove, Mattapoisett. I've been gone for several years now, and want
back. I am on a waiting list. I don't know about Marion, but I
have heard that it takes years, even if you are a resident.
Army Corps of Engineers keeps a watchful eye on number of
moorings in the area.

I keep my Typhoon at the Mattapoisett yacht club There may be a waiting list I'm not sure. But I have only owned the Typhoon for 2 years now and did'nt have a boat there for 8 years my former boat was a Hinkley southwest Junior and it was there for 4 years. Give them a call they may have an opening. Always a great place to sail out of.

How about South Dartmouth. We have been sailing out of there for about 15yrs. Try Concordia they have most of the seansonal moorings.

Bob,

Both my wife and I were born and brought up in Fall River and also spent our summers at the Hummocks in Portsmouth, R.I. where we learned to sail Candy Class sailboats. We're now retired in New Bern, NC and sail all year. We've got a great slip open next to our CD31 in Havelock, NC. Come on downand enjoy the warm weather and some great sailing on the Pamlico and Albemarle Sounds. All the best and fair winds on Narragansett Bay.

Robert - Have you considered driving another 15 minutes up the coast to Onset? The Point Independence Yacht Club was the location of the first New England CD Rendezvous a few years back and most participants had good things to say about the bay and the club. I spent my summers on Onset Bay so my opinion is tainted. The club has mornings available to members.
