We've been looking at Cape Dory 28 but Dave is over 6'. What is the standing headroom in a CD 30, our next option?

Cape Dory 30' headroom

Re: Cape Dory 30' headroom
I'm 6'1" and there was only one place in my former CD30 I could stand completly straight up, that was just under the main salon hatch. We had that boat for 3 years and loved it, but it is nice to be abe to stand up without brushing or rubbing your head on the cieling (we have a CD36 now). Only problem is, you're going to have to pay for that little comfort. You can find a very nice, don't need to do much to it, CD30 for around $35k. The next boat up...a CD31 that would have a little more head room is close to $50k and the CD33 is pushing $60K.
If your husband is 6'1" then it's a small inconvenice. If he's much taller then that, of course it becomes more of an inconvenience. If your just day sailing with the occasional weekend on board, it's a small problem. If you plan on spending more time on the boat and sailing further distances, it's a bigger problem.
I loved that CD30....she really sailed great, but if you can squeeze it out, the CD33 is probably the best for the money (and they sail great to....they all do).

Re: Cape Dory 30' headroom
Headroom in a CD 31 in the galley area is 6' 2", but you're brushing the overhead. Think about bunk lengths too. Anyone over 6 feet will have a tough time in the V berth in the forepeak if you're thinking of sleeping there.

Actually, we were looking for a 33 or 36, when the CD30MKII showed up. Look for the larger vessel (31, 32, 33)if you can bite the extra cost bullet.
