cetoled the toerails and taffrail, painted on a new bootstripe, washed and waxed the topsides, scrubbed the bottom and packed the trailer wheel bearings. another weekend like this will get the interior and deck scrubbed, a bit of varnishing done and the bottom painted and DAERAY will be ready for her April 1 launch. great to be on the hard in the backyard!!!! someone promise me another weekend like this in march!?!?

Congratulations John,

I can identify with the sense of accomplishement and eagerness for the commencement of a new season that comes with the completion of some improvement projects. The pride of ownership, passion of opinion, and depth of knowlege exchanged among the contibutors to this forum I would like to think inspires us in all of our nautical endeavours.

(Maybe a little Olympically spirited tonight.)

Best Regards,

Yes indeed it was a wonderful weekend, but of a different sort.

Saturday the temps here in Oklahoma were in the mid to upper 60's and winds were 15-18 southerlies...I had guest crew, son home from school, and my 4 1/2 yr old g-son....We rigged his safety harness and the jack lines and away we/he went....It was a grand day....both sons even got in the nap while we were on a particulary (sp) long starb'd tack.....A wonderful day...

THEN came yesterday...singlehanded this time. Temps were a bit warmer (lower 70s) and the wind was forecast fot 20-25, but they missed the mark....the winds were at least 30..I was out with a double reef and the 70% heavy wx jib...still doing between 5.5 and 6.2 (by gps). There was a Morgan 32 out under double reefed main only and they could not keep up. Rhapsody had very little weather helm and the toe rails were only put in the water 3 or 4 times. And by in large the boat was easy to handle and sailed around 20 degrees of heel or so. The entire boat was wet from the waves, but she handled wonderfully....Then a Pearson Triton started out and ran into some difficutly....Finally resulting in blowing out all but 3 of her mainsail slugs (old main) and turning and running for cover....It was a GRAND day in deed....Certainly a "CAPE DORY DAY".....

FWIW, the forecast for tonight and tomorrow AM calls snow/sleet !!!!!But not to worry, the ground is warm and snow will never stick.....or last for long...

Fair winds and following seas.
