Be afraid, Hanlei orders new Mains'l.....
Captains Commanding,(particularly NE Fleet Skippers!)
At 7 bells in the forenoon watch on 2/21/02, that rascal Captain Stump of the sailing vessel Hanalei ordered a new mains'l from Mack Sails in Stuart, FL. It will be conventionally battened, two reefs, shelf foot, with shelf foot on slugs. It will have tell tails, a jack line and triple stitched seams! It will be constructed of 6.62 oz. High Aspect Dacron! Delivery date is about the end of March. Order and acquisition of a new 110% Yankee will be forthcoming! Yep, 110%! Travis Mack will design this Yankee especially for Hanalei to replace an original Yankee that was apparently cut down to fit it into a roller furler and is currently guestimated to be less than 85% of the fore triangle.
The new Yankee will have a foam luff to aid in fuller reefing. The Yankee will be miter cut and of 6.77 oz. dacron.
This message is not meant to alarm any New England Skipper, but Sirs, if I were you, I would be AFRAID, I WOULD BE VERY AFRAID, that Hanalei may be sitting at the bar at the Watch Hill Inn awaiting your arrival to the anchorage in Napatree after the RACE, August 4th. next!! I remain Sirs, your most HUMBLE servant........

Literally just got off the phone with my sailmaker at Doyle Sails Long Island. Two weeks ago I ordered a brand new Doyle 2+2 Mainsail. He just told me he was over at the boatyard on Monday and measured my mast (which is on a rack) and then opened the "zipper" on the shrink wrap and went aboard and measured the boom. I, too, should have the sail at the end of March. This mainsail will be from 6.46oz dacron (27 ft boat not 30ft) with the top two battens full length and the bottom two battens "conventional" but extra long. It will be a loose footed sail. I'm really excited about seeing the increase in performance with the new sail as compared to my original blown out 22 year old Vector main. Sine Qua Non should point higher and heal much less.
Let's see. A couple of sails ordered from Mack. A couple from UK. And one from Doyle. At least we are doing our part in spreading around the wealth and keeping the sailmakers happy. Good for us!

New Canvas abounds!
The sail makers should be happy with the NE Fleet. Journey's End will pass this season next without any additional sails...what's the point when your #1 where the water it counts (Blue Water). Incidently, Captain Heintz, if I remember my PHRF rules correctly, genoas larger than 150% incur a rating penalty. Capt. Stump you owe me!!

Woops I mispoke
Captain Thorpe,
I believe I mispoke....that would be a 150% Genoa...
Lord knows that rating from last year was bad enough, I mean really....how many minutes do I have to give that slow boat Hanalie???

Re: What is ? ?
What per say, is a "trick blade". Is it a special knife to cut your flag halyard when ya wants to strike?
Re: Woops I mispoke
Captain Heintz,
As for Captain Stump....need you wonder. He has asked for so much, for so long, that he now wants everything forever.
Now to your overlap. My silence is available...for a price! Hmmmmm what might that price be??? Think Maine race ********* *****.
