Scupper drain hose sealant

Post by Bill Brockschmidt »

The original manual (1979 yacht) states -

"The cockpit scupper drains on your Cape Dory use multi-ply wire reinforced hose throughout. The hose is 1" on the Typhoon and 1-1/2" on all other models. All connections are sealed with gasket sealer and secured with stainless steel hose clamps."

The hose seems to be wire reinforced exhaust hose. What is the best sealeant to use in 2002?

Hi Bill,

I do not use any 'sealant' on the hoses fitted to the seacocks.

I agree with Leo...the hose clamps (stainless)should be enough to secure the hose.

Bill, I recently removed hoses on my scuppers. They had a dark brown-blackish sealer on them. My guess is it was gasket sealer of the type used on automotive engine repairs. I agree with previous posts... I don't plan to use any sealer when replacing with new hose.
