All this talk about spring launch dates caused me to call our marina and talk to Alfred, the owner about ice and snow conditions. WOW..we could launch tomorrow if we wanted to..he said the ice is gone, there is only a few inches of snow on the ground, and they will make sure the way to our boat is carpeted in a lovely red carpet accompanied by young maidens throwing rose petals. Ahh spring!! Now all I have to do is wait until Saturday AM. Jeesh, I love this time of year. To feel alive again, and have an actual reason to look forward to the weekends. Last year, they still had 9 ft..yep..9ft. on the ground. We walked up to the stern rail of the boat, lifted the tarp and got aboard, with all our gear. Never even used the ext. ladder. Amazing differences. Guess I'll need the ladder though. We are looking at a very early launch of April 12th. All we need is a little 50 deg. sun to help with the washing/waxing, grease the seacocks, test the engine, and we are ready to roll this year. There are some projects to get done once in the water though..2 new Anderson 28ST's (winches), a couple support rods for our radar pole, some new sail covers for the staysail (a redo of a new one we made from last year, made larger to accomdate the new staysails mass) etc.
This year is looking up.

Anderson 28ST
Hey Larry, Howzit?
Planning on adding STs to replace the orig. Lewmar 30s. Andersons seem to have good pricing. Now that you've had a chance to look 'em over, are you still satisfied with the quality?

Re: Anderson 28ST
Hi John,
Absolutely..they look very, very well built. The gearing is very substantial, with deeper cut gears than I expected.. I like the rib pattern too. I just wish that they did bronze though. We will enjoy the self-tailers.
Hey, were you aware that they have a Trade-In promotion going right now? You get $65 trade in allowance from Scandvik (Andersons parent company) for each 28ST you buy. Larger winches get you progressively more back..ie: a 78ST gets $500 back! (hey I'll take two). They have a web site whre you can get the trade in promotion certificate for the rebate..but don't have the url here at home. Whistle if you need it , and I'll send it from work Tuesday.
Cheers,
