Just wondering if anyone has a good idea for ways to set a storm jib with roller furling gear already on the forestay. I actually like hank-on jibs. I would like to try and do something that doesn't depend upon running another jib up the foil but don't know if I need to attach a jack stay aboard that I could attach to the stemhead when I use the storm jib. I feel that I need an option in case the roller jams or such.
Just pondering and asking for a few ideas...

Storm jib with roller furling on 25D?

Re: Storm jib with roller furling on 25D?
This was one of the things which attracted me to the Hood LD800 furler for my CD26 (same rig as yours BTW). It is a continuous loop furler which "locks" the furler into any position...i.e. can lock for a reduced or part furl. Combined with a adjustable furling foresail it means the same foresail is used as a storm jib to full capacity. By adjustable furling foresail, I am refering to a type which has a foam pad luff section and decreasing panel thicknesses from leech and foot sections toward the center of the sail (similar to the Hood System 3 furling sail). That means as you partly furl the sail the sail gets heavier and flatter as more sail is furled in. You are ready to go as soon as you partly furl in your normal sail..the sail design maintains the shape and strength as you furl...My wife likes it....and it goes over the existing forestay with no modifications...

ATN makes a storm jib that zippers over your fuled jib on the furler. It also helps to preserve your furled jib in a big blow. (it cannot come unravelled and flog itself to death)

Just thinking here- but I have a SeaFurl 705 ld ( Line Drive ), and have used it to reef the jib by cleating off the continuous line. However I'd think twice before actually using it as a @@storm@@ jib.
Remember, as the wind goes up. stresses increase with the square of the velocity of the wind. I think that you'd be placing a tremendous stress on the furling mechanism. Also, the clew of your jib is not built to storm-jib standards, so it would wear rapidly as it flogs. If the Control line broke, you'd have the entire RF Genoa flogging itself to pieces on your foredeck.
Maybe its a stopgap method, but If I were going into storm conditions, I'd prefer a storm jib.
