Standing water in bilge
I have a 1984 CD25D with a shower and head sink that drain into the bilge. How do the CD25D or other CD owners get that water out of the bilge? Thanks for your help,

Joe,
NOT GOOD draining that water into the bilge!!! You can never pump it all out and all kinds of odor producing stuff remains there! The same goes for water from the ice box!!! "Adamarie" has a dedicated shower pan under the cockpit sole to catch the water from the shower. There is a small bilge pump in the pan which pumps the grey water overboard. Water from the head sink is overboard via a thru-hull under the sink.
If you are unable to install some type of collection pan, you may be able to funnel the water into a bucket which you can then dump overboard.

If you do not have the room to follow Dick's suggestion (preferred solution) you'll have to flush and pump with the manual bilge pump. Make the pick-up hose long enough to go to the very bottom of the bilge.
Wild Bill, Any thoughts?
For winter stowage search this site by "garboard drain".

Re: Standing water in bilge
Coquina's head sink is piped to a tee on the galley sink drain seacock, but the shower drains into the bilge.

Re: Standing water in bilge
Hello Joe
Rhapsody (sans shower) is rigged in the same manner as your 25D....when I leave the boat for the week, I just pump her as dry as I can, then add a bit of Dawn Dish Soap and mix it up really well...This seems to take care of any odor problems. Then every couple of weeks, I get my 1 1/2 gallon shop vac out and pump the bilge completely dry. With the Ice box and head sink draining into the bilge I cant see keeping it compelety dry esp.. during the sailing season!!
Good luck with your new boat. You'll love the 25D!

Re: Standing water in bilge
Joe, get yourself some 1 gallon windshield washer containers and run the hoses through the screw on lids, place them in the bilge, problem solved. If you want something bigger you might be able to pick up a 2 or 3 gallon gas can. When the containers are nearly full, unscrew the lid and dump the content over board.

Re: Standing water in bilge
OK, I purchased a CD25D this fall and I was going to put a electric bilge pump in this spring. No one seems to have offered this suggestion. Am I heading down the wrong path.

Hi Ron
Well I have wanted to install an electric bilge pump for years now, but just havent gotten around to it...Yes that is a good idea, however, the models that I am familiar with still would not pick up all the water in the bilge.......at least in my experience....
