Subj: Doyle Sailmakers will be building the world's largest sail

Doyle Sailmakers awarded Mirabella V sail contract

Mirabella V, the latest of Joe Vittoria's Mirabella Yachts, is pushing the boundaries of modern boat building and sail construction. At 75.2 m (245 ft), Mirabella V will be the world's largest sloop and with a reacher measuring 1,900 m2 (20,450 ft2), Doyle Sailmakers will be building the world's largest sail. Also included in the inventory is a mainsail, staysail, working headsail and storm trysail. All told, the inventory weighs in at an astounding 3,184 kg (7,020 lb.) -- without hardware! The inventory will be built out of patent-pending Doyle Ocean Weave®, the most cutting-edge, high tech superyacht sailcloth to date.

Mirabella V is being designed by Ron Holland Design and built by Vosper Thornycroft, Ltd., a naval shipyard in Southampton, England. The boat will be launched in August 2003 and ready for charter by Winter 2003.

Mark,
I believe the French word for knight is Paladin

Richard Boone as Paladin
His card read,

Have Gun Will Travel
Wire Paladin
San Francisco.

Of course he had an imprint of a chess knight on the card!

Have Cape Dory
Want to travel

Captain Kaplan,

As a SAFETY matter, you have been disqualified from THE RACE! Reason being, with a keel of that depth(when down) you would be hard aground at the starting line!! Oh, well, call the cabin steward and get another drink!!!!

She draws only 12ft w/ the centerboard up. But would she fit across the sound???
Did any read teh part that her ensign should be 21x14ft (294sq ft). Thats about the mailsail on a 25D. Anyone see the picture of the London double decker bus sitting in the hull???
Oh, and it has both a Jacuzzi and dip pool.

Dave,
Ha! The weight of the sails, without hardware is 7000 lbs. Sine Qua Non displaces 7500. How'd you like trying to heave to in a boat like that! Do you think they have an elevator inside the mast in case you have to go to the masthead? Ha! They'll sure need an extra battery bank or two! I wonder if Doyle is gonna' hand stitch all the sails! Take heart! I bet they have at least 2 kinds of grog in the galley!
