Genset for CD33

Post by Frank Vernet »

Ladies and Gentlemen of the Board:

Has anyone installed a genset in their CD? I did some preliminary research on this several months ago and came away disappointed. Main issue is space - where in a CD33 do you squeeze in a genset large enough to carry a modest load (eg. refrig and/or a/c unit for V-Berth)?

I did find a small Westerbeke Marine Diesel Generator 3.8BCDT (60Hz) capable of putting out 3.8KW (enough to drive a 17,000BTU a/c unit), but it is hideously expensive (see the link below).

One option is the port lazerette. Any thoughts, ideas, experience in this matter? I am open to all suggestions.

Thanks in advance to all. As always, this board is hugely useful and entertaining!

I also have researched this problem for my 30 MKII and come away quite discouraged. The best options so far are a unit using a single cylinder engine and large standard alternator then using an inverter to make the a/c. The size and weight of this combination were in the almost fitting category. I am still looking though. Panda has some small units and Ample power has some. If anyone has done this I sure would like to know also.
