ALBERG SEA SPRITE 23

Since my 23 sea sprite is a close cousin to Alberg designed CD's maybe someone can answer my question re. the upper jumper stays. I want to remove them to get them out of the way of the chute. I sailed a Typhoon previously with the same 7/8 rig ---with no struts. I also heard that these struts were eliminated it 1983---mine is a `1977.Any thoughts or information will be appreciated Ron
