It works for me--Weatherproofing Dock Electric Box

Post by M. R. Bober »

After several years of experimentation, I have found an acceptable means of weatherproofing the electrical connections at the dock when installing the ice eater & its thermostat. A Rubbermaid 32 gallon trash can is perfect for the job. First it stores the ice eater, float and control lines during the off season and second inverted over the piling covering the electrical outlet it does a fine job of keeping out the weather.
I secure the can with a line between the handles that passes under the dock. Simple and unlike earlier efforts with plastic wrap, there is plenty of ventilation to prevent moisture build up in the works.

Now that winter is REALLY here...
