Yale ULS vs. Sta-Set X

Post by Warren Kaplan »

I need to replace my main halyard (along with some other lines) and I've gotten recommendations for both Yale ULS (Ultra Low Stretch) and New England Ropes Sta-Set X. I'll be using 3/8" line. The ULS prices out less expensive per foot. Does anyone have any opinions about the differences in these lines? Any particular characteristics that makes one better or worse than the other for use as a halyard?

Thanks

I used ULS this summer when I replaced all halyards and genoa sheets, and like it fine. It is easier to splice, which was my main concern. I also think that's what came on the boat. Many folks think Sta-Set X is better, but for my use ULS is fine. It's also available at my local chandler.
