CD 22 or Halman 20

Assuming the sailor is competent, which boat is the better in severe weather? Why? I could use some input in this matter.

I don't know which is better. They are both nice boats but very different. The Halman is very interesting and unless someone has been onboard one they can't begin to appreciate it. There is a lot in that little package. The Halman certainly has a more exagerated sheer, I believe it has a fuller keel forward, is pretty beamy for a little boat, has a quite a lift in the bow. I personally like them. You don't see them very often. I don't recall the construction aspects of the boat and that is what I would investigate. They are more of a northern coast style vessel. The cabin has a sort of pilothouse look to it with the larger ports.

check around for a website on them. From just a design standpoint I think the CD would probably be a better sailor. I think the Hallman might be a drier sailor. The two extra feet in the CD will make up for it's narrower beam. Truly they are really different boats, I think you might be comparing apples to oranges.

The Hallman 20 was originally built as the Nordica 19 by EXE Fibercraft of Ontario , Canada circa late 1970,s or early 80,s. The Hallman version appears to have added a short bow platform to increase it's LOA to 20'. It is salty looking, don't know a lot about it however, but I have a smaller Nordica 16 as a second boat and it was very well made. I would inagine the CD to be faster sailing, but the Hallman design sure looks tough. Take both designs out for a test sail if possible. Jim R. CD300ms
