tabernacling Ty singlehanded

My recently acquired Ty Weekender lives in a marina that requires lowering the mast to clear a bridge every outing. The previous owner had an athletic system of singlehanding this, involving clipping the jib halyard to the anchor chock and easing the other end, but still holding the mast in case the halyard failed, slipping a PVC pipe over the tiller for an extension... don’t yet understand how he dealt with the outboard from that position, or tied off to rerig.

I will have him demonstrate soon, but I’m sure there must be an easier way. Since I am primarily interested in sailing alone, I want to make this as easy as possible. Anybody got a great system?

I've used this system at my dock this summer, and it works very well.

I have not tried it underway, but I do get the mast up by myself with no problems. I have found it is very helpful to tie the mast base to the tabernacle, and you should make sure the cotter pins are installed in the mast pin.

I would be more concerned about wave direction then wind direction in setting my heading.
