Maybe I am just seeking moral support, here, but I'd like pointers on possibly selling our 1983 CD 27.
We got her 2 years ago from my in-laws, and I think (tho' don't tell my hubby yet) that we're learning that we're just not tried-and-true sailors. He's a fisherman at heart, and generally prefers to take our little Whaler out to fish rather than heading for a sail. Also, we live at the headwaters of a creek in Annapolis that dictates sailing only around high tide (the boat draws a bit more than our dock allows). Finally, summer days are just so crowded in our area that we get easily frustrated when we're just trying to have a relaxing sail.
Now that you don't all think I am evil for thinking about selling the boat, I was wondering if you can advise me as to what are the important things to have in "ship shape" before selling. The boat's in good condition and was lovingly maintained by my in-laws. We've just completely replaced the cockpit sole (something that needed to be done a while ago), and are fixing up the sailcover and bimini cover. The Westerbeke works like a champ and my husband's done a great job of maintaining it mechanically. Other things that we could touch up include some sporadic gelcoat spidering, and replacing our through-hull knotmeter that was lost to a determined barnacle (although the electronics are all still intact for it). We will repaint the deck (its looking a bit faded and worn) and hull (although it's up-to-date, too).
Any other thoughts? Also, would you recommend trying to do a private sale or using a broker?
I appreciate any advice you can give. It will be hard to actually part with this boat, since its been in the family for longer than I have!!!
Thanks a million,
Jessica
