just came into owership of cape dory 14 hull 246. would like to know what is the secret of keeping the sprit in the brakket on the masthead MINE KEEPS FALLING OUT AND LOOKING LIKE A GAFF help.

Congratulations on acquiring a wonderful boat. The sprit is held in the yoke with tension on the halyard. The foot of the sprit has a hoop which slides up the mast and the halyard lifts the sprit and pulls it into the yoke as it reaches full extension. I can send you a jpeg file showing this if you like.
