I can't figure out how to remove the bronze clamp-on fitting that attaches the tiller to the rudder shaft. I see a key, and have soaked everything in wd40 but there must be a trick to getting it off the rudder shaft. Anybody know how to do this?
TIA

removing CD-27 tiller attach collar

Re: removing CD-27 tiller attach collar
Chuck:
The easiest way to remove the collar - or any similar fitting pressed onto a shaft (like a propeller) is with a gear puller. It is basically three or four hook-shaped arms attached to a plate, with a threaded rod that passes through the plate. The arms hook onto the bottom of the collar, and the end of the threaded rod sits on the end of the shaft. Screw the rod in, and the arms pull the collar off.
Auto parts stores sometimes rent these (for pulling gears, clutch plates and transmission parts), and your boatyard may have a rig designed specifically for propellers that might work.
Good luck.
