I'm looking for advice on the starter. It failed to start even though the key switch was replaced. By shorting the main battery cable to the solenoid positive terminal I was able to start the engine. There is a second relay switch on the rear of the starter that this bypasses. Anyboby know what it does ? I've bypassed it by wiring directly from the start terminal on the key switch to the solenoid. It works, but .....

Re: Perkins 4-108 engines
Tom,
My Perkins manual contains a loose sheet titled "schematic - wiring harness and instrument panel." The last date on this Perkins drawing is Sept. 9, 1980. It shows a hydraulic transmission neutral switch between the starter button and the starter motor solenoid, but nothing else. If you would like, I can scan the diagram and send it to you.
