CD Power Boat - Carburator Info
The engine idles at 1100 RPMs with the engine warm. When I throttle up to 2500 and reduce the RPMs the engine dips below 1100 and then settles at 1100. While on the mooring when I engage the transmission at idle, the engine stalls. If I engage the transmission, increase the RPMs than reduce them the engine stalls. Anyone with theories and remedies will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Chris suggest you check your automatic choke.Take the cover off and check the element to make sure its not rusted through or full of crud.Chris Novack wrote: The engine idles at 1100 RPMs with the engine warm. What kind of an engine are we talking about? Is this a gasoline inboard, an outboard, a diesel?

Great question, sorry. I am talking about a 275HP Chrysler V-8 inboard found on my 28ft Open Sport Fisherman. Chris

Tom;
Thanks for your input. Some additional information. The carburator is clean, all of the vaccuum lines are tight and the carb is tight on the engine. Chris

Re: CD Power Boat - Carburator Info
Chris,
I am no Chryler engine mechanic, but I fooled around with a lot of carburated gasoline engines in the last 40 years. I am happy to say they are no longer in my automotive fleet.
It sounds like it is idling fast but has no power. I don't know what the specs are, but my guess is that the idle has been set to compensate for something else. Have you checked the timing? If it is running rich, as with a stuck choke, then the engine would likely run rough and the idle would not be stable, it would tend to wander. It would also emit black smoke from the exhaust, if you could see it.
Good luck and let us know what it turns out to be.
