DataMarine just called to tell me that the instrument is fine. So the trouble must be in either the transducer or the cable (or both I suppose). There is 12.4VDC at the instrument.
If the tranducer needs to be replaced, I would probably opt for a new sounder. The marginal cost isn't great. However two questions come to mind:
1) Does anyone know how much resistance the transducer (a known good one) presents?
2) If the transducer is shot, does anyone know of other brands that might use a 2 1/16" hole in the hull?
The bad news is that I've only been in a few weeks and am scheduled to cruise in a few days. Speedy replies are most welcome.

DataMarine Sounder--HELP

Re: DataMarine Sounder--HELP
Mitchell, I had the same problem on my 25D, discovered a badly corroded cable connector in the bilge, after a good cleaning every thing worked fine. Have not checked my 33 but I think it has two short cables joined by a connector also...Its worth a look-see. Dennis Ward CD33 WindWard GraceM. R. Re: DataMarine Sounder--HELP
Mitchell: Hi, Just replaced my instruments with DataMarine two years ago. Noticed last season that the readouts were faint and blurry. They were better with my glasses on, but not much. This is the case with speed log and my depth sounder. What was the problem with yours? Any tips for trouble shooting?
