West Marine Prop Zinc Dont Fit - Revisited -Again

Post by Bill »

I received my non-fitting Canadian Metals Prop Zinc today and DAH it dont fit, so I called WM and went to the special orders department. They called Canadian Metals, and they make a "course" insert for the prop zinc and they are FedExing me one today. I should know in a doy or to if this one fits. I sure hope so because I dont think I can get the 1 1/4" collar on my shaft.

More to follow

Well I finally got the zinc and it fits perfectly....Looks just like the old Perry Nut (installed and ignoring the "set" nut). So now that part of the chore is done.

West Marine does not show this part number in their catalog. You have to special order them from Canadian Metals (through WM). The key is asking for the "COURSE THREAD" the part numbers are the same at WM so they will probably have to call CM to get the correct part number for teh insert with course thread.

I got an email for a fellow CD'er wanting more info about eh Canadian Metals Prop zinc (includeing the WM part number). I am attaching my response to him here. Remember that WM MUST special order this "course theread" nut from CM and they probably dont know they can until they talk to CM....

I understand exactly what you mean by WM thinking you were :crazy....However, they dont have the part number (I dont think). They have to call CM and ask for the "course thread" nut for the prop zinc. The WM part number is
132581, but that does not differentiate between the fine and course
thread.....again, you can not just use this number and get the correct part
(nut). (hell the first two times I ordered using this number I got the
replacement zinc without the nut....)
