CCDO 1998 Float-Ins and Request for Opinions

Post by Walt Bilofsky »

The California Cape Dory Owner Association 1998 calendar is now set:

Spring float-in April 18-19, 1998 at Emeryville Marina.

5th Annual Rendezvous August 15-16, 1998 at Benicia Marina.

For Emeryville, there are some alternatives for meals, and we would like opinions from those thinking of attending. The most convenient location for dinner would be Trader Vic's, which is right next to the marina. They have offered us a wide range of dinner menus for a fixed price ranging from $26 to $44. Each menu has a choice of three entrees, plus salad, dessert and coffee. Charlie Brown's, about a half mile walk, has a Sunday brunch for $16.95.

If we want a less expensive alternative, we might be able to do a tad better price-wise at Charlie Brown's, and we could get a hot group breakfast at the Holiday Inn for $6.95, with fewer choices. Or we could do Charlie Brown for both meals.

So how do folks feel - should we pick a menu at the lower end of the Trader Joe's price range? Should we go for the fancy $16.95 Sunday brunch, or economize at the Holiday Inn?

It all sounds good, Walt.

But, at $26 to $44 a meal it sounds as though one should (GASP!!) DRESS UP?? I'm happy to go with the group to Trader Vics if that's the majority choice, but given my preference I'd prefer to tone it down a bit and go someplace where I won't feel out of place being a bit cruising grungy. A half mile walk is just fine and probably good for us after the afternoon wine and other repasts.
