Determining CD10 year

I just bought Leo's CD10, which neither Leo or Peter before him were able to determine the year of manufacture or hull number (obviously the metal plate with hull number is missing).

2 questions:
a) any magic on looking at how hull is constructed (mast stepping, etc) that helps at least roughly determine when it was built?

b) Is there a place somewhere in/on the hull (and yes, I certainly looked on the transom) where Cape Dory might have put a 2nd copy of the hull number?
