Recommendations for portable electronics

I'll be using my Ty in waters where for the first time I'll be needing a radio and night running lights. I read in an earlier post a Ty owner recommending removable battery-operated lights and a hand-held radio. This sure keeps installation simple! And makes sense to me.

There are many models and price points, especially in radios. Does anyone have any recommendations as to what should one look for in radios and lights?
