NEW HATCH FOR CD28 SAIL

Post by Mike Thompson »

I have a CD28 sailboat 1977. The forward hatch needs to be completely replaced.

The inside dimensions of the opening are a liitle less than 19 1/4 inches. The old hatch was the flat base type.

They don't make standard hatches of this size any more. Should I just cut a slightly large opening?

Could I use a flanged hatch and would it be stronger?

How do I choose among the six or so types of hatches in the West Marine catalog?

Try Pyacht.Com (Performance Marine) before you order anything from West Marine in the way of hatches. Look them up on the internet, then call them on their 800 number.

After West Marine told me that it would take them months to get a new Lewmar hatch cover for my 28 (I was replacing the plexiglass cover) I called Pyacht.Com. Not only did they come up with the exact replacement but got my my Lewmar hatch cover in three weeks at 30% less then West Marine!!

They also offer other hatches that must might fit the one you are trying to replace.

Mike,

Have you checked with BOMAR. I thought they still made those hatches, they are just expensive.

Why replace it? I rebuilt mine.
