What is a Cape Dory

Post by Paul Kruse »

Hello. I found this page by accident, and got interested
in it. Perhaps someone could tell me what a Cape Dory
is? Looking at some of the pictures, they do not look
at all like the dories that I am familiar with.

Please E-mail me, if you would like to respond. I would
very much like for someone to point me to a picture where
I can see a Cape Dory out of the water.

Cape Dory is a line of sailing yachts begun by a man named Andy Vavolotis in 1963,with his forst boat, atrue Dory. A 10' sailing dory. He then expanded to a line of yachts designed by
Carl Alberg, including a 25', 27', 28' 30', 33' and36'. He later added a 31' and a 40'. The boats are all full keel cruisers, well built, moderatley heavy displacement, but still good performers.
They include internal molded lead ballast, akeel attached rudder. small bronze opening ports amd many other features which are considered part of a good quality yacht.
I've never heard anything but satisfaction from a CapeDory owner.
Why don't you buy one andjoin the club. although you'll have to get it second hand because the company went out of business in the early 90's. (Although check
Robinhood Marine in Maine) Good luck. Will,
'Pelican'
