Outboard for CD10 dinghy

Post by Gary Jacobs »

Does anyone have experience with outboard motors used on the Capea Dory 10 dinghy? Specifically, what size motor works the best. I don't want to overpower the boat, but I want to move along as smartly as possible.

I have experience w/ a Suzuki 5 hp on the CD10. It moved the boat well but is a little heavy. I would suggest something as light as possible. As you I'm sure know the boat can be tippy. When using an outboard this is made worse by both the weight of the engine and the rearward weight bias of the engine operator. I'd suggest a Honda 2 hp with a tiller extension.
