CD30C rigging question

Post by Geoff »

I'm in the process of supplying JSI dimensions for new 316 standing rigging and I'm puzzled about the backstay.
The length matches factory specs closely (40'1" vs 40') but there are two jaw eye toggles between the lower terminal eye on the backstay and the aft chainplate. I can't imagine a reason for them other than someone was trying to straighten the mast or lean it more foreward.
The toggles add a total of 3 and 1/4" to the length of the backstay.
Did it originally have no, one, or two toggles? And should I add the 1 and 5/8" for each toggle to the length of the new backstay if I eliminate them?
Can someone please verify the pin diameters for the eyes:
Backstay 1/2" at top and 3/8" at bottom
Uppers 3/8" at top and 3/8" at bottom
Lowers 5/16" at top and 5/16" at bottom
Staysail stay 1/4" at top and 1/4" at bottom
Forestay 1/2" at top and 1/2" at bottom (depending on furler)
Should I replace the uppper tangs as a matter of course while I'm rerigging?
This is my first post but I've depended on this board greatly for information over the past year I've been refitting S/V Wings of Morning. Thanks everybody.
Geoff.

One toggle is recommended at the bow to allow the stay to "sag" out to leeward without putting a bending moment on the chainplate. You could use one of the toggles up there...just adjust the length accordingly.
