CD25D Boom Vang Intallation?

Post by Bob Ohler »

My CD25D was never equipped with a vang to control mail sail twist. I would be interested in hearing recommendations from other CD owners concerning hardware used on their vang attachments (specifically bails, placement locations, and fasteners used). I already own a 4 part vang system... I just do not have any bails on the boom or mast to use it.
Thanks,

Bob:

When we got her, Remedy (CD27, #37) also did not have vang attachments (but, curiously, did come with a vang). We took the easy route: Call Rig-Rite, tell them which model Cape Dory you have, and they send the proper bails. We also got advice on bail placement on the boom - 150% of the height from the step to the boom.

The hardware we got was a pair of stainless bails, with through-bolts, washers, and lock nuts. I probably could have saved a few bucks, but it's good to know that the guys at Rig-Rite can spec. rigging hardware so easily.

Bob, I have just found some original specs for a boom vang in my owner's manual. If you would like, I will fax or mail them to you. Just provide an address via email. CD25D #69 "Bali Ha'i" Toms River Barnegat Bay
