Cape Dory 28' curtains

Post by John B. Kinn »

Does anyone have any information on sources for curtains and hangers for a Cape Dory 28'? The tracks for sliding hangers are present! Just need to obtain the sliding hangers themselves or better yet a source for ready-made curtains with this type mounting already installed. Any help will be appreciated!!

Hi John,

We purchased new curtains for our CD28 from East Coast Embroidery. If you search for embroidery on this site, you will get about 15 or so messages with the contact info etc... The quality and service were good, if you are willing to go for the price.

We recommend keeping curtains closed on ports and hatches when the boat is idle. You can learn an important lesson that we learned the hard way. We kept our boat in Florida for a few years, and the sunlight coming through the forward hatch ruined the veneer on the hanging locker door. Don't forget to put a UV resistant varnish on the top of the v-berth cabin door also. For the same reason,it is dried and cracking even though the door faces look great from below.

regards,

David and Terry Wade.

John,
I didn't care for the curtains on our CD28. We have what we call "shower cap" port covers. The covers are made just like a shower cap, elastic hemed, to fit over the rim of each port. They stay in place, eliminate sunshine from creeping around the edges and are easy to store. We used the same covers on our former CD22.
