Leoma to Ensenada 12/1

Post by JD-MDR »

Departed Ventura on Sunday in very light winds. I need to be in Long Beach at Los Angelas Harbor for a memorial service on 12/8. My sister has been fighting cancer for a long time. We thought we beat it but it showed up in the kidneys last year and it’s been downhill since.
I have plenty of time and I was hoping some wind would come up. I’m really tired of motoring. I anchored one night at little Scorpion Cove then was able to tack way off and back to Yellow banks anchorage both at the south end of Santa Cruz island. I tried to sail to Santa Barbara Island but I couldn’t even get 2 knot. I anchored there for two nights. The forest service had surveyors looking at the decrepit dock and closed down campgrounds. I hope they fix it. The dock had no ladder and I got drenched landing the kayak on the rocks. There are no beaches here just steep cliffs.
I sailed and motored to Catalina Ithsmuth Cove. It’s all expensive moorings but there is a little cove where a few boats can anchor in 20-30 ft. Other boats can anchor in 60-100’.
Im in Long Beach now and plan a nonstop cruise to Ensenada tomorrow 140 mi.
Here is the Queen Mary now a hotel. Yesterday a modern cruise ship was near and it made QM look like a dinghy.
