About this time last year a certain CD30, which shall remain nameless, sailed through those same waters on a passage to the Caribbean…unscathed.
The crew members of the trimaran were incredibly lucky to have another sailboat close by. The captain and crew of the sailboat which came to their aid effected a faultless rescue under trying circumstances. Three cheers are in order.

Good story. The North Atlantic is dangerous in December. Wonder what they hit.Jim Walsh wrote:https://www.royalgazette.com/transport/ ... oat-sinks/

All of the whale migrations should have moved through earlier so it’s a complete mystery. In the article it is described as a “custom” trimaran. I wonder if it was professionally built or home built.John Stone wrote:Good story. The North Atlantic is dangerous in December. Here is another one.
https://news.yahoo.com/two-men-sailboat ... 02252.html
I left a year ago, today for my trip from Noank to the USVI. Things can get very nasty out there, this time of year. I did not have an entirely pleasant voyage but was better prepared than they seemed to have been and I made it. I would not attempt that trip again at this time of year.

I remember your voyage. A real testimony your seamanship and the strength of your boat.Steve Laume wrote:Here is another one.

Re the two guys found on their dismasted sailboat. So many things wrong there which we all know so I won't go further. Lots of people have no business being out there. No idea what they are doing. Glad they are OK though.
My concern is I suspect the boat is adrift in the GS. Something else to run into offshore on a dark night.

Thanks for including that link. I’d read about that incident but there were few details provided. It was never mentioned they had lost the rig. That puts things into another perspective. Since they had no EPIRB, had they not been spotted, they would never have survived.Steve Laume wrote:Here is another one.
