Transducer issue?

Does anyone know how to test the transducer linked to the Datamarine depth sounder? I had the depth sounder rebuilt a few years ago but I still dont get a depth reading on the LCD and I suspect the problem is the transducer. Is there a way to check if the cable between the depth sounder and the transducer is faulty?

I recall reading an article somewhere on how to do this with a multi meter… suggest a Google search as there’s nothing special about testing and how it relates to your cape dory
