Bottom paint & varnish slipups on gelcoat

Post by Jim Ehrenfried »

While varnishng teak and painting bottom (ACP-50) the inevitable slipups occured, and I have a couple of spots of both items on gelcoat. Any specific suggestions for removing?

try scraping off the worst of it with a single edge razor. there are paint removers that are ok for fg if it is a disaster zone, otherwise just try buffing any residue off with either a scotchbrite pad or rubbing compound. sooner is better than later. if you catch it like the next day, knock the top off of the drip with a scraper, then try solvent as the rest may still be somewhat wet.

Judicious use of Acetone on a rag does very well. Just remember it is a solvent and once the area is cleaned rinse very well. DO NOT leave any excess Acetone on the gel-coat. Hope this helps.
