I guess this is in the wrong section. Oh Well!
Hauling out 11/29 ready to cruise. Haven't [posted for a while .guess I'll post this :
After I installed the chartplotter I was about to toss my Garmin handheld away. It was draining the batteries in a couple hours even when turned off. It used to go for several days. Garmin said they don't work on them anymore. I decided to hardwire it in and use it as a dedicated GPS for the vhf's Digital Selective Calling feature. It's working good now. I still think it's just extra unnecessary stuff on the boat. But what the hell.
I have it and may as well use it.
Oh I also installed the Last Watch Alarm .I like it. It can be set for how ever much time you want and locked with a key. I don't think its to wake you up when you fall asleep at the wheel but more to prevent you from falling asleep because you always have to get up and reset the timer. I'll probably set it for 10 -20 minutes. I have problems holding my eyes open sometimes. Or I can get caught up reading or cooking and fail to keep a good lookout.
I wish I knew how to build a cabinet for the instrument and distribution panals. They are secure how they are just doesn't look very good. That's a project for later days
Can anyone recommend what should be included in a first aid kit? I want to buy something more than just a bandaid and aspirin. WM has a kit for $200 but doesn't say whats included. It probably will be good for start. I probably need to add to it for more serious problems.

John
Glad to hear you are about ready. You have worked had to get to this point. You seem to have a pretty good grip on what you are doing and what you are about.

No need to buy an expensive west marine first aid kit. I'll send you a recommended list of stuff--what I carry plus add or eliminate as you see fit. Just remember--start the breathing, stop the bleeding, protect the wound, treat for shock.
